Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Nice color, some of those browns look real goood! Nice Avatar, you must have a few Oak trees nearby.

Thanks! That pic was taken at my mom's.... there is pretty much everything up there. She lives on land that hasn't been logged in at least 100 years, except for the small clearing where her house is. There are maples, oak, elms ect..... Beautiful area!
Cool! Who laid your purple tinted one? Luna our BA lay's one of similar colour. Ours washes off if you clean it but it's still a cool tint.

All the brown or pinkish eggs are from my Golden Comets.... The tint does wash off some, but it is still a different color than the other browns.

I noticed yesterday the the Light Blues Brother has a brown feather in his wing!

His Darker brother spent his first night in the rooster box last night, he was pretty much at full noise at 5am. This morning I heard two going so we are going to have to increase our selling effort or make space in the freezer. The rooster box can only hold two of an evening!

I know what you mean. I have 3 light sussex boys in the sin bin. I started fermenting feed today, even though it is a bit hot. I'll just have to keep the water up to them. After seeing that article on the home page I thought I'd research it a bit more. I have only done it in the past with lupins but I'm going to give the barley a go. Hope you've not been affected by the bush fires Ben.

Thanks Fancy, No we have not been directly affected, although Perth as a whole is rocked. Last I heard 44 homes were lost and one fatality, but that was before lunch time today and it was reported that the fires were still out of control and jumping roads.

We have had a go at the fodder thing before too use up some old feed, the chooks loved it but Alicia was not so keen considering I was growing it in the wash house tub!

Quote: I just asked on another thread for an alternative, I have nothing here to add to water and live too remotely to get anyhting on a sunday. I have ACV or a soda drink I could add a little to water???? I have no electrolytes at all
I lost her, she stayed inside my laundry last night beside the door for a cool breeze, I last checked at 11pm when I went to bed and she took some water and was very droopy eyed and looked dazed. I petted her for a half hour then went to bed, at 5.30am she was 'gone' . She's buried in chookyard cemetery around the back of the shed. :( So sad, she raised our first ever batch of chicks and went on to raise three more batches including the last lot. My poor wee Coco.

On another sad note , I dread to think how many animals may have lost their lives in the bush fires. One man gone but no-one has mentioned the animals that I have heard of
