Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

I planted chocolate mint in my run & my pullets scoffed it. It has recovered nicely & I have yet to find a new home for it. I'm now growing standard mint next to the run in the hopes that it will invade the run & not anywhere else. : ) I also have comfrey but have read that it's one of the plants to feed seldom to chooks or it causes problems. It's a pity because they grow such nice big leaves.

do you know what problems comfrey will cause? I have comfrey popping up around the run, along with mint actually, and they all love to munch on it...

When I first saw a picture of a Tasmanian devil I was disappointed because it looked nothing like the cartoon (I was maybe 10), But they do look cute. Australian fauna is fascinating.

Oh there's nothing cute about them. Nasty growling smelly little creature. Enough to make your hair stand on end when you hear them in the night.
There was an article in a local paper of one attacking someone's dog and tearing its ' family jewels ' off.

I always laugh when people tell me they grow mint and how invasive it is. I can't grow it.. It dies everytime lol. I grow just about every other herb know to man and I have just planted comfrey for the chickens... but I seem to be a mint murderer.

It has taken over my vege patch. I had some chicks in there ( saving them from the goshawk ) . They laid in it but they didn't eat it.

I find my girlfriend to be cute, and she does that too (under local anesthesia usually). And she can be a nasty growling smelly little creature in the mornings...

Warm indeed! I did get out of bed, but been up in the hills training. Still need to upload that pic. Sal has been doing a stellar job.

Seems the Rocks have shown more interest in the nests, chased Marrie off today, poor girl looked like she was busting when she finally got a chance to go in.

Bit of a lazy mobile upload, my cable is all the way in the other room....
