Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Done for the day, time to make food and walk the dogs.

Still need to put on some bitumen roofing, make and paint doors, and put in some shelves.
Yes, nice job! Not too far to go.

I admit I'm very envious of the building/carpentry skills I see. That is a nice looking circular saw too Vehve. When I finally got out the hand held circular saw I bought to make my nest boxes I discovered one problem - I jump every time I switch it on. Even when I know & brace myself for the noise I still jump. Oh well. After no one had laid an egg in my beautiful hand made nest boxes for a week & after finding two eggs on the floor of the run, I gave in yesterday & bought a litter box for the pullets to lay in. I seem to be following a theme here, seeing as they like laying in the small dog kennel in the run, they have a small dog litter box in the coop now. My cats thought that I'd finally bought them something new when I brought the litter box inside. Lol.
We are having wind gusts of up to 50km/h here today so no free-ranging today.
I agree on the saw. One thing I have been 'pining' for. Nice neat cuts set to the right angle instead of transfering lines and hand cutting. Such a better job using one.

Shame about thenest box, I don't think i twas your work, just picky pullets :D

There are over 1500 photos posted in this thread.

Just sayin
Lots to see hahahaha, your thread must be well up there too.

We have some sunshine today, so the brooder has been cleaned and the chicks can spend the day in the sunshine.

Oz, a picture says more than a thousand words.

Cwrite, I'm sure the chickens just don't want to risk getting your beautiful work dirty.

I really like that saw, don't know what I'll do when I return it.

Some progress again, we laid the bitumen roofing, doors are next. The downside of using whatever scrap pieces you've got left, is that it usually turns out a bit ugly.

Should be waterproof though, and we should be getting some heat, so I hope the roof will get hot enough for the glue to properly stick on that top piece, as I didn't want to puncture it with nails. I might have to think of some way to make the sides prettier though, but I've only got about 2 meters of tin profile left.

Tadaa!

Still need to get the shelves done, but that's tomorrows job. Sort of suits the house nicely, I would say, and finally the end of our house can stop looking like a landfill.

Topi has started romancing both Wilma and Töyhtis, so perhaps they will start laying soon, they've been practicing their eggsongs and checking out the nests. Virpi is still holding out on us, but should start any day now too.

Felix are you talking to yourself again ? :lau
Nice job. We have similar choice in colour.
