Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Fingers crossed the girls are still up to the job when it warms up a bit.

I would set now if I could, but we are going away for a bit in October. We don't want to burden our house sitter with more work of brooders and chicks and so on. The day I get back though I will be putting together our next hatch list. We also want to throw in a few from our own mixes which are not quite ready yet.

What sort of ratio do you typically see from a dozen eggs? I would like to end up with one or two blue pullets, maybe one more black to go with Luna.

oh blues! Keep calm. They're just chickens. Hehe. But what kind? And blue... I love my blues.. I love my lemon blues too... Oh hey! Did I post my lemon blue girl? When I am on my real computer I will try and remember. She's pretty. Golden body, blue fan for her tail.

Any way, I agree with Oz... Get the $1.46 bucket. Get the one from Taiwan nit China. Lol

And totally agree on the "nut it out on my own" building a coop with what's to hand, or can pick up and re-purpose.

My Blue Australorps. I agree, blue is one of my favourite colours in most breeds.

I am a sucker for blue. Been on the hunt for a reliable supplier of Blue 'lorp's for some time.

Can't wait to chuck some in the 'bator!
I have better luck with blue than anything

I have blue laced wyandottes, bbs giant jersies bbs orpingtons blue andalusians and blue breda fowl. for something different i have lavender orpingtons too.

I want my ozzielorps black!! They have been the hardest of all breeds for me to get locally in SoCal but I just snagged some for next hatch

Good work Oz, out BA is real nice, except the laying part...she seems a bit dim on that front. Great green tint through her too.
in my humble opinion, there is something special about the beauty of a mature ozzielorp - but maybe i am biased.

The lone roo I hatched in my Christmas hatch had a smackdown with a roo that looks like a delaware. 4 hrs later the BA was spurs up.

BA have become my mission. To cover my odds with my awesome hatch rates I have 3 suppliers this next trip. Hopefully I will be oozing black chickens with a green sheen.

Well that sucks Oz...

Here is my lemon blue girl... She's getting so pretty. I won't be having no babies to sell for two years probably, as the boys won't reach their full potential for two years and I'd like to be able to show the parents to the best advantage.
