Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Got a bit more done this evening on the rooster box. I did not account for capping of the inner door frames, so I won't get it completed this weekend, but it should get close.

Going to have a few chicken things happening this weekend, so I will save those updates as they happen.

Undecided if I will put the middle divider in, see how it looks later.

Door ways are cut, back and side are on (upside down in this pic)

Floor and first fit of the capping. My kingdom for a compound saw! Would make for a better finish on those angle cuts.

Right way up.

Vent in place. Prewtty sturdy as it is, but I plan to remove the self tapper screws and rivit it all together when I am happy with the final dimensions.

Tomorrow will be the doors, more vents and make the divider. It will be removable so I can leave it out if I like. Weighs a ton!

I think that You could Build anything out of scrap!! Between You and OZ, why don't the Aussies rule the world, or at least sell us every thing we think we might need?

Hahaha thanks Scott. I guess it stems back to being dumped on an island and just having to make do. I also don't like to waste things either. Buying those types of panels from the cool room place would be close to $20 each for those bigger sheets, may as well use them. If the result is keeping a rooster or two then bonus!

Will get back into this project after lunch.

Ben is a craftsman. He makes pretty as well as functional.

I have good intentions but my stuff is ugly. lt normally works, but ugly.

One of the things I am in awe of on this site is the ability for people to repurpose materials. The lateral thinking is phenominal.

I am trying to get the place I work for on the weekends to agree to let me raid the skid pile they have accumulating out back. Some are pretty standard size and then there are these small ones that are about 2x3. I figure those would make great pair coops... grow outs... broodys. Anyway, I love to find the free stuff, or the left over stuff and build something with it. I am looking forward to the serious house building summer. I will stop and ask to raid the scrap piles and come away with enough to build this and that... I want those skids though to make the pens, nests, what ever in the shed that I need to get cleared out this summer. Now... if only I could get free money to pay the bills... LOL. OH wait... Maybe not...
