If you don't have lice Ben I wouldn't worry about it. I am cursed with visiting sparrows. If you just spray the nest box with a household surface spray and then put your nesting material that should kill two birds with one stone. I use ' coopex ' it's available at bunnings. Better get a move on apparently Pam s got a job for me.

I gave Broody Fancy the two eggs from our son's favorite chicken this afternoon. A fair trade for her two plaster eggs. That's all she gets...seriously!

A little flat screen TV and some popcorn would be nice to help pass the time.
I sprinkle sulphur around all my coops too.

Sulphur works great for repelling mites. We have had problems here from the wild birds too. Sparrows keep building nests under the eaves and we have wild turkeys that will roost right on the chickens' fence.

Hopefully the turkeys have Mareks, that way they're doing you a favor.

That's my hope! With all the turkeys we have around, at least some of them must carry it. If so it's worth putting up with the extra bugs they may share.

I've been telling people for years to read the label on the pestene, the active constituent is sulphur. A 250g container of pestene is $23 , a kilo of sulphur is $2.50
We use it on our angoras, when we first got them they were covered in lice.

We've done that...not fond of the strong wild taste these guys have. Pines and Swamp for food makes for bad tasting turkey

I've thought about raising them from poults and fattening them up on game feed but that would seriously reduce my chicken space.

With game birds I've found cooking them in water with some applecider, chickenstock, carrots, garlic, thyme, some onions and a couple of apples really gives a nice taste.
