Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Thats some great news Joanne and Lindz. We have a bit to go for our last few in the incubator.

This package was sent plainly marked to avoid the 'shake more' handlers, who knows what they did to it!

In coop news, Sal seems more interested in putting lost weight back on, Luna the BA has not laid for about a week now. I have found a few black feathers but nothing like the others. When the LS started it looked like they have been attacked by some wild feather plucking predator overnight. Luna seems to just look a bit skinny and stopped laying.

No one else has started back up yet so we are back down to 1-2 eggs a day now.

I hope it's not the case, Ben, but I wonder if the eggs were damaged by the postal folks to the point that Sal didn't perceive the appropriate signs of life from them...perhaps that's why she gave up on them....

hoping that you can still salvage them despite the rough handling. It was good that you reacted as quickly as you did.

We wanted her to do it so we gave her all the chances we could. I am not sure about the signs of life. Amy sat on two golf balls for nearly 4 weeks last year.

I think she was just inexperienced and intimidated by the Rocks. Maybe if I had thought of removing them before moving her it would have been ok.

Either way, can't change it now. Three that are left look to be doing well.

I did a candle last night, it was a quick one with only 4 eggs to look at!

The Coro has nothing. I used my new super-dooper crazy bright running headlamp I got in the mail the other day and it looks like what I could barely see before was a ruptured yolk, not a developing chick. I have not opened it up yet to check though.

The other 3, BLRW and SIlkie are doing well, saw all three move. I have not been weighing them as I had not expected to be so involved this time around. Three pullets and they will all have a home here with us :)
