Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Oh well Ben , you can but try again. I had a terrible day yesterday . I went out in the morning to find that the mongrel cockerel that I should have gotten rid of weeks ago, had jumped the fence and beaten my prize BLRW roo to within an inch of his life. His head is so swollen and he is covered in blood, I don't hold much hope for him. Then my cat got her head stuck between the cab and tray of my sons ute, sticky beaking. Last night to top it all off my daughter and I went out to catch the rogue rooster , heard a bang and by the time we got back the dog had wiped out a full grown male wallaby at the front door, blood everywhere.
I'm heading off to wash the roo down and try to get some of the blood out of his eyes . Oh I forgot to mention I had 6 biopsies done and am supposed to be keeping my stitches clean.

Oh Fancy! I am so sorry you had such a lousy day! There isn't much that looks more pitiful than a chicken who has been beat up. He is certainly in the best of hands with you. I pray for a peaceful new day, healing rooster, dead bad rooster, and most of all good biopsy results! Hang in there

Oh my, what a day. Sounds like there was claret everywhere! I hope the wine and fire left your spirits as best as possible.

Tomorrow is a new day, well except for that roo, probably his last.

Oh no Fancy!

That is one roo that will be easy to dispatch. Hope all goes well with the biopsies! Today can only have been better, I hope.

Ben, I would like to hear that noise sometime, but hopefully not in my backyard. Is your big race this week-end?

We did not hear the littel dude go again today, only this morning. We have a jam packed day tomorrow but if I hear him I will try get a vid.

Sunday is the 'little' big race. Perth's City to Surf Marathon (42.2k). The BIG race is the 50 Miler (80k) in September. Two sleeps. Target finish time for Sunday is as close to 3:15 as I can get, so will sit on a average pace of 4:37 per km, or about 13 kph....and I will still finish about an hour behind the winner hahahaha
That sense of humour is your ' latent ' Aussie trying to get out.

We all laugh at the same cheesy stuff....must be related somehow.
The Ozzy is heavily repressed, but sometimes he sneaks out. I do enjoy pretending that a cardboard tube is a didgeridoo, so you might be on to something...
Yep....you must have Aussie genes, we all do that at some point.

Well said mate.

Good luck for your 'little' race tomorrow Ben! That pace seems awfully fast - shows how much I know about long distance running. This is how I view myself for the short periods I hit 12km/h

Lol. Not to worry about the vid, that wasn't a hint. I'm pretty sure at some point I'll come across a young roo IRL.
