The spalding is nice but that black shoulder is one of the best I have seen. It came out of a Brad Legg blackshoulder crossed to a one of his midnights. It does not look as blue as a blue split or as dark as a midnight so it was sold as a blue (of course split to midnight).
PS, if anyone has any blackshoulder or midnight hens they want to sell, I am in the market! The regular IB are going out to free range.
Up there did you have to pull a permit for the aviary?
We are in Central FL and by golly seems everything involves "them" getting into your business. We're new to all this (moving onto our farm in a couple weeks) and we are very interested in pea fowl.
Thanks.
P.S. Is there somewhere to purchase pea fowl eggs to incubate and hatch?
B-A-B could be a good source of eggs in the spring... AugeredIn, were you happy with the birds you got from them? I think they have some good green blood. By the way, nice work on the pens!

Fortunately, where we are permits are not an issue. My closest neighbor is my wifes parents and their house is about 750 feet from ours. The next closest neighbor is a about a 1/4 mile.

I am only going to free range three of them. The rest are going to other homes. I am also going to free range that pair of whites and the little pair of spaldings. I want to have four breeding trios by spring. The preferred types are bronze, blackshoulders, midnights and spaldings. Ally would replace the bronze with silver pieds.

The BAB guys have been great so far. I am trying to get some more birds from them right now. I don't think that they will sell hatching eggs though. I think their business model involves selling internationally more than dealing with the little guys and I certainly cannot blame them. Per my previous post they have some amazing birds and fantastic facilities.
Finally finished the new aviary. A few final pictures. The only thing missing is some heavy duty chicken house cloth to provide visual barriers during mating season.
