She is very sweet and she'll fall asleep on your lap when you hold her, but she will run around and play
with you when you want her to.

We found her July 2nd and we couldn't leave her out in the heat.
She was almost passed out, and lethargic and almost got hit by 3 cars before I ran out there and grabbed
her. We brought her home, and gave her a bath, and she is a totally different dog today! She feels so much
better and she's eating, she is housebroken, and she sleeps all the way through the night, in your bed, and
doesn't bother you one bit! She is a little sweetheart! My dad wanted us to take her to a shelter on the 3rd if
her previous owner didn't come trough that night, but our phone was out that day so we couldn't call, and we
couldn't take her over the 3 day weekend, so we kept her and I kept looking over lost dog signs, and craigslist
and facebook posts, and NOTHING.... I was starting to worry because there were no "No-Kill" shelters anywhere
close to us... But on Saturday I noticed that she was snuggled up with my dad. He still didn't want to keep her...
Then he started calling her in bed with him..... but still "didn't want to keep her"..... This morning, he woke me up
and said "Well, if she's going to stay......... Let's call her Lilly!" I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!!!! I have fallen head
over heels in love with this dog over the past week! She is such a sweetie!!!!! My whole family loves her! I knew
there was a reason God was telling me that I needed to pick her up!

Lucky little dog, good for her you picked her up.

Why's the tip of her tongue white in the last few pics?

While this probably isn't something you want to consider at the moment, you may not be able to keep her, it may be best to not get attached to her yet.

Have you checked her for a microchip and had her health checked?

Looks to me like she was someone's little beloved pet at some point, which may seem at odds with how you found her, but I've seen stranger things happen to beloved and wanted pets than getting found beside highways in dazed states.

Some people can also treat an animal great all its life then dump it when they feel like it and you'd never know they weren't truly loved, looking at the care that went into them... But, it's also still possible someone out there is grieving over their little pet and desperate to get them back. Checking craigslist and facebook pages aren't necessarily going to comprehensively answer that question, you'd probably need to take her to a vet and get her microchip scanned.

I don't see a spay tattoo in her ear. It's fairly likely she has run away while in heat and gotten into mischief and that's how you found her. She may be pregnant (if she doesn't have that tattoo). Last time we found a nice little female dog she wasn't dumped, she was a runaway in heat, and she looked very similar to yours, though obviously it's not the same dog.

Small dogs also aren't too much less likely than large dogs to jump from moving cars, and they are accidentally flung from them too when cornering, it's happened a few times to a few small dogs I've known (not my dogs lol, I'm extra-careful about that). I've also seen loving owners driving along obliviously while their dogs strangle hanging over the ute trays out of sight because they left the rope a little bit too long, even an inch or two too long can be the difference between life or death... And while it looks like abuse it's just an unfortunate accident and the dogs are wanted and cared for.

Sorry to be a downer, it's just possibilities you would have to consider. Her previous owner may still be looking for her and she may not be an abandonment case despite how things looked.

Best wishes.

The white was just the way the light was, her tongue looks fine : ) We took her to have her scanned, and no chip. they said she's about a year old, and she looks spayed. they don't do any marks in the ears around here... we checked the vets and there were no reports of her being missing... and she's healthy. i understand your concern, and its WAY too late to not get attached. I understand all the risks. thanks though :) if her owners show up, we would give her back though

Alright, sounds like you've done everything reasonable so far to try and find the owners. Not much more you can do.

Best wishes with her. :)

She looks like my Chika. She seems to have some rat terrier in her and maybe some chihuahua. Chika is a rat terrier mix and looks similar to her in the face. We have a story similar to yours. We have had pit bulls dumped on our street, lots of cats, so it wasn't surprising to find her on that rainy Monday. My neighbor put her in his garage and fed her. The next day we heard REALLY loud crying, it was her. When we went to get her, she had a choke chain on her neck, it wouldn't come off. It had to be cut off. We took her to the vet, no microchip, no signs posted. We think someone just dumped her because all my neighbors, me included have well taken care of dogs, so naturally we would take them in right? Sadly yes. Like you, it took convincing for my dad to say yes. He did and she is ours now. We had her spayed and the vet said she was about 7 months old. Not sure why people can't just take their pets to a no kill shelter or try to find a home for them. Good luck with the pup!

Did you call the local Sheriff's Office and/or Police Department? I work as a dispatcher, and we keep a record of missing dogs. You might check with them also.

What a cutie, isn't it funny that the dog instinctively knew to cozy up to your dad? Usually the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, maybe your dad's heart really likes naps lol. I know you will keep your ears and eyes open in case someone is looking for Lily. We lost our dog for 2 days, it was the worst 2 days of my life (neighbor had him and actually took him one more time as well, he is mentally challenged and didn't know any better). It sounds like you have been responsible in trying to locate the owner. I hope everything work's out in your favor.

Lilly's a cutie!! She's very lucky to have you in her life. She knows she's found the perfect family to love and cherish her forever.
