Hi, After raising our first batch of babies in a make-shift brooder that I built inside our hen house, I decided my wife needed a real brooder for her new batch of babies. We have two Silkie chicks that are a few weeks old and 7 new "Top Hats" from McMurray on their way Tuesday. So, this is what I came up with. It is 3' wide x 5' long and 18" high. Ther roof is hinged and their is also a small reach in door on front for replenishing water and feed. I built it out of left over scrap plywood and misc. small dimension lumber I had in my shop. I wanted it to be very light and easy to move. I also added an arm that pivots to hold the heat lamp. If ya need to open the whole top, you simply swing the heat lamp out of the way. I also added a small piece of wood that swings up to support the roof when open. The girls seem to be very happy with it so far. I mounted a thermometer down low in one corner and built them a "mini" roost as well. Here are a few pics. Hope ya enjoy checking it out.
Erik
