Thanks for posting this. I'm about to start building my brooder for the 15 chicks that arrive next week. This gives me a lot of ideas. I want to put mine on top of the poopshelf (with the roosts removed) for now, so that I don't have to stoop to get to them and they might not be so frightened when I approach because I'm approaching them from the side, not the top. What is your experience? 18" is high enough for how long?
Very nice brooder. I'm going to steal various ideas from yours. I have left over flooring that I will use for the sides (click-marmoleum plank scraps) - easy to clean).
