My Coop
My Coop
We have four hens, and two baby chicks. We knew our old coop wouldn't be sufficient for 6 chickens so I designed this new coop and DH and I built it. We're very proud of it

Pictures and details are on my blog.

We've made four modifications so far:
1) stapled wire mesh inside the window so we can leave it open in the summer
2) DH made a ramp / ladder for the girls to get up onto the perch as they were being silly about it
3) We put a lid on the food tub, with a hole cut in the middle so they can still eat but not scratch the food out everywhere
4) DH put a board across the middle nesting box as the girls like to nestle up against a wall when they sleep and didn't want to do so against the wall over the door

Other than that it's worked out great and we're pleased with it.

Absolutely beautiful coop, too much "crawl under" space tho to work in my area... hoping you have fatter predators in New Zealand!

Thanks. The only predators we have to worry about are occasional hawks (although I've never seen one) and random neighbourhood dogs (we are in the process of building a fence, although we are renting).

I would be concerned about the lack of a barrier to a dog digging under the edge of the coop.

It is an attractive addition to your yard.

Chris
