Free! My husband found this small building and he worked a deal to do some backhoe work in exchange. It may not look like much now, but it will be a great house, I think. It's very sturdy, doesn't leak, is on skids, and is fully sheet-rocked on the inside.
We're going to attach it to the current chicken coop, so they will have a warm inside, and an outside area. No more wrapping the coop in tarps during the winter!

Wow! That is so awesome; I'm in serious envy mode right now, 'cause I've got to build a coop and run in the next six weeks. Congrats on the great find!

I'M jealous too!! What a wonderful D. H. you have!!

Man, a few coats of paint, a little inside remodeling, and you'll be sipping "mint-juleps" or lemonade while the rest of us are slaving away on our coop projects!!!!!

Found out some history this weekend on this little building. An old-timer pumper told us that the building used to be an office that was used in the field back in the 1950's. He said he used to gather there with a couple of other men every morning about 5 am to drink coffee together before work.

I cleaned it out on Monday, and found a solid wood desk (not usable anymore, unfortunately), several years worth of Prevention magazine dating from the 1970's and 1980's, and typed out oil well weekly production spreadsheets. There is (of course) more damage to the building than we first thought. There are many holes in the building that need to be patched and through which the rats have taken out most all of the fiberglass insulation to be used as nests in the desk. The floor is also completely rotten, which we were expecting.

I'm still completely thrilled with the new addition, and will post on our progress.
