I bought a peacock and a peahen, both chicks, about a year ago. Unfortunately, our male (Clyde) took off with 4 wild peahens from the area about 2 months ago and never came home. Our female (Bonnie) is still with us but seems very lonely. We want to get another peahen for her but have a few questions first.

Should we get a peahen around the same age or start with a chick ?
Should we acclimate the new bird the same way (keep caged for roughly 2 weeks) ?
Do new additions commonly get along with an established peahen ?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks !!

I would find one the same age.

It needs to be caged for much longer than two weeks to be homed to your yard/location. I use 4-6 months.

You should not have any problems with squabbles. There will be a dominant hen, but it gets established quickly.

Do the wild peafowl frequent your property? If so try and get the homed to you.

Thanks for the info. The peahens use to come and Clyde would leave with them for the day but always come home at night to roost. Then one day he just never came back nor have the wild peahens. Bonnie never left with them, she always stayed at the house.
