What ratio is the redrive? What RPM does the motor run? I like that the feathers can only come out of one area. It would be easy enough to put a cut down pail and chute under it.

He thought long and hard about it and decided to do the feather exit hole because he wanted to leave the barrel whole and he wanted to keep the water and feathers from falling directly on the motor and gear reducer plus for easier cleaning... it worked great and he was very satisfied with how it turned out.

I have no idea so I am getting the builder of the plucker to answer your questions...

The gear reducer is 10:1
The motor is 1800 rpm
Yes it would be easy to make a chute but I wanted to use it first to see how well the feathers came out. I had heard others having problems with the feathers not exiting properly. Our plucker seemed to throw the feathers out with no problem. I put the plastic board propped under the exit hole temporarily to keep the feathers from building under the tub. It worked well and the feathers made a neat pile that was easy to clean up. I may end up making something but if I do it will be something easy to attach and remove.

Thanks! I like that better than a belt drive. Just don't get anything caught in there, a belt will slip, that gear motor will eat you alive. Ouch! But then why would anyone stick their hands in there while it's on? The board you put in place was what made me realize you could funnel feathers where ever you wanted. I think I might use that system if I build a drum style plucker. Thanks again.
