:weeone of our ducks was attacked and farmer's around us have lost lots of chickens and ducks. Our duck cannot walk properly as one leg has something wrong with it and she is really clever and survived against all odds from foxes etc, and now something attacked her. She has a pen away from our other ducks and the goose and she loves it and is really tame. I spoil her a little and we also had a pet parrot with a broken neck the next morning my husband found him. Just luckily our other parrot survived and is doing really good. My husband is trying to find out what is attacking them:hitHe is a hunter CV and determined to get it but it is not easy on him and I cried:hitabout parrot as both of them can say our names, hello and will call out to us!!

So sorry to hear about your misfortune.

As far as your injured duck, I have one that has had nerve damage to one leg for almost a year. Although she's not as fast as the rest of the flock, she's been enjoying her life. Since she was handled the most because of her injury, she's the only one who knows her name. Hence, Paige is first in line for treats. Lots of grapes find their way to her bill.

Good luck taking care of your predator problem.

We need more details to narrow down what's attacking. Another really great tool is a trail camera which can be found for around $100 to get one that does video, not just pictures. We've had great luck using ours with 20 seconds of video to see what's happening. Second- fencing and overhead nets are important to minimize loss. We bit the bullet and did chain link (6ft) with hardware cloth wired on, top to bottom, and a huge hawk-net over the entire giant run. It wasn't easy but I haven't lost anything to predators.

Very sorry about your duck I hope she makes a full recovery and also sorry about your Parrot.
If you can share pics of your set up and pics of your duck and her injuries we maybe able to help. Was she penned when the attack happened, did you see foot prints? was anyone else injured? Was this night or daytime? good advise on getting a game camera set up they can show you what is coming around. But a very secure pen and coop is the best thing for protection. My flock cannot be outside of their fenced area unless I am with them way too many predators here and very wooded. I hope your dh can find the pred and end this but problems is there isn't just this one they are everywhere and many who will take every chance to dine on one of our flock.

My husband has had the trail camera out and is out hunting a lot. I am wondering if it is pigs? I like the sound of the chain link and netting. Our pen is really old and was here when my husband and I moved in. We are going to build a new one hopefully. Thankyou for your kind reply. Just wandering if you know if the Duck Poop help posts have set it up for the information as I would love to join and help out if I can!:wee

Very sorry for your loss!

Everyone here has given you great advice.
Yes everyone's help is really terrific and this site and the members are truly wonderful! So far our ducks are doing well! Just wandering how I can make some Duckie treats for them? Soon as they see me,they know I have some treats for them.
Thankyou for your post too me. Still not sure what is taking them but my husband is determined to find out as this duck he really loved but things happen farming and we always remember them.she

She was penned in and she was taken not long ago. My husband uses the trail cameras too but doesn't show anything attacking them. We know longer use that pen and building a new one for our other ducks too. So true about the predators. Have to take photos of the pen as I have them on a Nintendo. Do it for fun with them.
Thankyou for your kind post! :jumpy
