Ok we have a 11 week old duck and noticed he was really unstable when trying to walk around. Unfortunelty we found a wound under his right wing, and he wouldn't walk on his left foo/leg. We have his wound cleaned and doing well. But he cannot walk or won't walk on his foot. So if he stands up its just on one leg. The foot is warm not inflamed. He holds it up to his body but it doesn't flap around as if it is broken. We do have him separated from everyone else. Clean bedding, fresh water and excess to food close enough that he doesn't have to walk to it. Please let me know what we can do. Unfortunelty no vets by me look at ducks. So the closes one is about 80 miles away.

Even if you cannot post pictures, could you give us an update? I would try an Epsom salt compress on the leg, and give Norbit at least half an hour a day in a lukewarm tub deep enough to float in - don't leave him by himself.

Also, don't put Epsom salt in the water. It is a laxative, and ducks tend to drink what they are floating in. Use a compress or a shallow flat-bottomed bowl.

we have him by himself just so he doesn't try to walk on it too much. I will for sure try the bath its hard seeing him like this. When you try and do a epsom compress could you be a little more detailed please on how to do it. He also isn't eating very much. Is it possible he is in pain? This is my first time owning ducks. Which I have absolutely loved so far. I will try and get some photos of our guy. Thank you so much for your help i will keep you updated.

i saw how to do it wet a clean cloth in water epsom cloth i will do this. I will let you know how it goes.

also do you think it would be a bad idea to have another duck in there with him. We have four more Pekins i thought i could put our other Pekin Gretta in there with him but I'm scared she might step on him.

hey sorry i was unable to post photos of norbit!! But an update is needed. Surpisingly a mobile vet clinic came through my little town and was able to look at our boy Norbit. He has an infection in his leg. The vet said giving him shots of a antibiotic. And he should take to it well and be in good shape in no time as long as the infection didn't reach his bones. Unfortunately none of the vets in my surrounding area took "wild" animals so it was getting hard to find anyone who would look at him asap. Literally a big thanks to the mobile clinic rolling through my work and for meeting me at my home to look at him. Things are starting to look up for finally!!
