Our Predator is Our Dog!

For the past few days, our hens went from 6 eggs a day to 3. Yesterday when my DH went out to collect them, there were only 3. He sat them down for just a second and our blue healer, who is about 7 months old, gulped one down in a split second! (now there is only 2) She has never even tried something like this before! Now today, me and my DH were in the house talking and we looked down and our darling pup had a egg in her mouth!!!! It's like she was showing us that she can collect them also..... This egg was not broken or cracked so she had to know what she was doing even though we still don't understand what she is trying to tell us. Do any of you wonderful chicken lovers have any ideas??? Will she always try to eat our eggs???? Is there anyway to stop her without having to close up the hen house? (All our chickens are free range)

Dogs don't belong in the chicken yard. Just leave the dog outside. They eat more than eggs in there. Don't let the dog lick on you or the kids. Dogs are great companions, but sometimes they are just too disgusting.

its hard to break an egg sucken dog,some folks give them a lead pill that usually does it

eek may be cute now, but it wont be cute once the flavor changes to la chicken.

Just cause he likes eggs doesn't mean he'll grab a chicken next!!! My golden keeps a big distance between him and the girls, actually I think he is afraid of them!

Honestly, our dogs go into the chicken yard with us. My Cockapoo loves the chickens, she walks around in there and if she gets too close the old bitties will let her know. She just wants to be with me.

You won't break them from eating the eggs once they start.....Maybe she wants a nice glossy coat so she can be so pretty for you.....is your doggy feeling rejected and wants to show you that she can get an egg so you dote on her too! LOL

We had a cat that would go catch mice and deposit them at the front door. She would leave them there until you said, "Good momma kitty getting a mouse like that." Then she would snatch them up and be gone. We left one there for a whole day to see what she would do and when we said "Good momma kitty getting a mouse like that." She looked at us like "FINALLY you jerks now it is cold!"
