We started out with 3 hens that we got from a friend a year ago, and then got 3 chicks this spring.
Well, one of our chicks turned out to be a rooster, we named Roosty.
At first my husband said he was going to be either Thanksgiving, or Christmas dinner. Unless he behaved himself!
Well, my Roosty isn't going to be any dinner for a very long time, if ever.
He is so good(except for getting out of the fence), whenever he sees or hears my voice, he comes running to me, mostly because I spoil them all with all kinds of treats, but it really comes in handy that he does, because whenever they get out of the fence, I just call them and they come running, with Roosty in the lead!!
Yes, he does crow, loudly, but I love listening to him, and it helps tell us where he is, too. We don't have close neighbors that could be bothered with him, except a lady across the street, who got a bunch of chicks last summer, and ended up with 3 roosters, and they crow back and forth, with Roosty. She's trying to rehome her roosters, but hasn't had any success, yet. She doesn't have the heart to butcher them.
I love watching Roosty take care of his girls. Yesterday they were in my garden, which I've given up on for this year, all scratching around, and he was standing on the railroad ties on the edge, watching over them, while they found worms & bugs to eat. Yup, he's going to be around for a while.

how sweet! I love our rooster too, everytime we come home he greets us with a crow.

what breed of rooster is he? I like the name roosty, i named mine Roo, like in winnie the pooh

So Sweet! I love it.

We had a rooter, Angel! Oh, he was my favorite! He loved me and always followed me around, was the first to sit up in my lap when I visited the coop. He was such a sweetheart.

Unfortunately (or fortunately for him) he was misgendered at hatching and sold to us as a hen.
We live within town limits so we are not allowed to have roosters. When he started crowing, we knew we had to rehome him. I found a local boys ranch that fosters young men that are troubled, homeless, and need a new beginning. Part of their therapy is to take care of the animals on the property. I thought it was a match made in heaven.

Enjoy your lovely, Roosty! I'd love to see pics :)

It's nice to hear a positive story (or two :)) about good roosters. I had a good one too, his name was Moe. Unfortunately, even though we only have a couple of semi-close neighbors, one of them was extremely irate about Moe's crowing so he had to go.

I was worried the girls would miss him, but they actually seem more relaxed and friendly now. Guess I'm the one that misses him the most.
