Our schools are contributing to the H1N1 hype and I'm not impressed...

Really!!!!! I'm NOT looking for an argument!!!!

I would not rush myself to get the vaccine. My son did a report last year on the Jonas Salk and the polio vaccine. I did not know that some children had gotten sick at first because of a bad batch. I like to wait until it has been tested out first.

To go to school my kids had to have the chickenpox vaccine, I was very hesitant about it, what with it not being around for a very long time. The doctor told us if they had it they would never get chickenpox, it lasted for life. Well guess what, now you have to get booster shots. My worry is my kids will be older and get chickenpox and get really sick, because the older you are when you get it the more danger. I wish they had gotten chickenpox before school, so they wouldnt have to worry about any of this. I just wish in that situation as in the flu it could be personal choice.

I am a Nurse. And it makes me angry to see all these people freaking out. The regular flu kills 30,000 people a year. But this 'Swine Flu' kills a few and everyone freaks.

It is very very dangerous to get a Vaccine from Swine Flu. You can't just pop out medicine to prevent it in a few months. It takes years of hard testing to get medications right. Thousands of people are going to get vacinated. And 10 years down the road they are going to find out to causes defects in babies, or causes cancer, ECT.

Please everyone! They are firing the issue bigger than it really is. Resist getting vacinated. It will cause more damage than good.

Of course everyone should still use common sense. Washing your hands is good in any case. But no one needs to stress out as much as they are making it seem.

With DD I was told the chicken pox shot was good and would prevent it. By time DS was same age(he's 2 yrs younger) the Dr said it was not necessary cause maybe it would and maybe it wouldn't prevent it.

I opted not to give it to him.

Unfortunately my kids couldn't go to school unless they had the vaccine or proof that they already had chickenpox. I have a 1 year old baby and it will be interesting what they say when he goes to school.

The only ones that get the Flu Shot here are 2 of my 3 kids, the youngest had open heart at 1 week and my son a collapsed lung with in 24 hour of birth. if they get the flu it could harm them, but this H1N1 shot they will not get, its to untried. the hype around this flu is hype to get people riled up. period. the more you add to the hype the worse it will get. like I said before the only deaths have been those with other health issues.
What we need is COOL Heads not fear

One of the scenarios that i am afraid of is that families are hearing 'get the shot. get the shot' on all sides....media, schools, govt etc. Many believe that anything that you hear from schools, govt agencies etc is akin to the gospel.

Then, the flu season will hit and there wont be enough vaccines for those who truly need it because of secondary health issues.

This will cause a panic and people will be scared.

The hype is what irritates me.

There is ALWAYS a provision to opt out for religious or personal beliefs; however you will probably have to sign this every school year. IFF there is an epidemic, unvaccinated children may not be allowed to attend. There are certain vaccinations I have chosen to not have my son take. It's a hassle to do the paperwork every year, but it is a choice I made, based upon a discussion with his doctor, in whom I have enormous amounts of trust.

Well our Elementary school is trying to keep everything hush hush!! We have 2 confirmed cases of swine flu in our school system and guess what.....not 1 letter was sent home until after the fact. According to the CDC we do not have to close our schools until the absences reach a certain percent. Well, because of that I now have 3 out of 4 sick children. All of them have "flu" like symptoms!!
