our second egg was laid by one of our production reds, it is as light in color as our first egg laid by our barred rock. I am trying to get the colors all figured out so I can keep track of who is laying. This egg is light brown and kind of speckled white. I know production reds are a mix could she be a leghorn mix or since this is the first egg will it change as she lays more?

I think the pic is deceiving... it's pretty big for a first egg but it is more round than my Barred Rocks egg and a bit bigger...my Barred Rock has laid 2 now and they are both the same size. But the one she laid thats in the fridge fro 2 days ago is an orangy color compared to the new one...do they change color in the frindge when they get cold? here is another pic the production reds is in the middle and the first egg is on the left...

I have a BR and a RIR, which I think is similar to a production red. The BR eggs are lighter, smoother, and more round than the RIR.
But that's based on the whopping 5 eggs total I've gotten so take it for what its worth.

Here is the egg I just collected. I am 99% sure it's from one of the Production Reds. Isn't it a little beauty? And the yolks are SO orange!

ooooo!!!!! I can't wait to break mine open!!!! we are going to have to share the 3 we have between the 6 in my family everyone wants to take part!

I have 3 true RIR's and 3 production. Of the production, 2 girls lay smaller pinkish eggs... The 3 true RIR's are different, they are large and brown....

Congratulations!!!
