our SILKIE tractor pic....update on the ramp and silkies

I was a little concerned about putting my fluff babies in with the big girls. They've been in the sunroom now for 2-3 wks. I would take them out and put them in a little pen so the big girls could walk around them and check them out, but it wasn't going well. My big girls wanted to taste them.

So, i talked my hubby into helping me build a tractor for the silkies, i'm betting he doesn't have a clue how he got talked into this...

It still needs hardware cloth, hinges, hooks, but i wanted to paint it first. and it doesn't have a door on it yet or a roof or nesting box. Now that piece you see sticking out, is the trap down, so that will open and the silkies will be able to get to the run.

It's all scrapes of wood, except for the 2X2s that we used, some were bought. The scrapes made this project hard, b/c they were not straight or sometimes they were not all there...you know the 2X4s were off at the ends, which made all of the measurements off.
It's difinitly a marriage tester!

Do you think we'll have a problem?....I have 3 that roost on top of the brooder, that they're in... I'm hoping for follow the leader.

I guess i better think of PLAN B just in case then...thanks for the heads up...

I only have 5, so i guess my answer today is 5.

The measurement of it is 10X2 feet. It's hard to get it bigger, wo/cobbing up the hardware...and i wanted it to be preditor proof. and didn't want to pay moocho$$$s. Just can't afford it now. I did fork out 44.00 for a role of 50' by 24" of hardware cloth, it was cheaper that way. and i'm sure we will use.

we're staining today, bought mistakes at hardware store, $5.00 a gallon...

Well our silkie had trouble figuring out the ramp. I would have to put her up top everynight. Finally the other chick (a speckled sussex) would "herd" her up the ramp at night. I'm sure they'll get it eventually, just be prepared to help a bit.

Then entrance to my coop is less than a foot off of the ground, and only one of my 3 MONTH olds, knows how to get in. I have to herd the other 36, who just cuddle up in the corner of the run.

Oh no! I hope we haven't goof on this....We're almost finish with all of the hinges and locks, then i'll stain and we'll add the hardware cloth to it. Guess i'd better tell DH we may have to change some things....

Surely they'll get it eventually! Maybe I need to keep a sussex with all my silkies to make sure they learn how to get up the ramp LOL! I'll have to let you know how it goes with the next batch.
