Our VERY FIRST EGG !! :)

Wow! I'm in the same predicament, didn't expect any eggs until late August when all of a sudden there it was. One perfect egg! I still have 2 bags of chick starter....I think they'll be ok eating it for now...especially since I'm not sure which one did it. Congratulations!

I'm still waiting for this year's pullets to start. I'm seeing some redder wattles and combs, though, so hopefully not too long...

Day 5 -> Day 1

i always wanted to do this

the difference between BYC vs store bought

BYC eggs (Left) vs store bought (right)

i'm feeding my chickens organic starter feed.. once all done i'll switch to organic layer

but for now they are eating starter feed only... with little or no calcium.. i was worried about the eggshells.. but so far not problem with th eggshells thus far.

i'm curious where they get their calcium from though ?

My chickens are still on starter feed and up until now i was the only one eating these eggs

It's not until yesterday when my family also tried the eggs

they told me that it's not as good as store bought eggs?

??? really?

is it because of starter feed ???

these are fresh eggs only 3-4 days old..

I feed starter feed full time to my bantams. It doesn't affect the egg taste in anyway. Some feed additives like cottonseed meal can cause off eggs as well as consuming garlic or onions which I'm sure your chickens probably aren't doing.

What more than likely happening is your family is used to the taste of store bought eggs and doesn't want to like something else. There's also a mental component to it, especially if you said they should taste better.

Fresh eggs taste fresher and can have more of an egg odor to them. They also contain more moisture than store bought eggs, there's a difference, but not necessarily one you might notice if you didn't know about it. I think if you didn't tell your family what they were eating they wouldn't have even noticed.

Does boiling make any difference ?

since they boiled the eggs and then complained about how the eggs didn't taste as good and too much white part vs store bought

There's more white because they aren't old and partially evaporated down. I think they are just making excuses. Once people think about where their food actually comes from they sometimes freak out, but maybe they prefer old factory farmed eggs to fresh and clean ones.

you mentioned about bantams?

their eggs have more yolk than white right?

maybe they will like them better..
