We are trying to find some info about what she is. She was hatched about March 9th from our own french black copper maran eggs. The parents we also hatched out ourselves and there is no possible way she is a mix. Her legs under the white feathers are gray. She doesn't have pink eyes they are a green or brown color. When she hatched we just though she would turn copper but instead she got whiter and whiter. The others that were hatched out with her are pure black and black and copper. Any ideas would be welcome....

Quote: she could b a white sport. sometimes they "sport" (spring up) from an unlikely color combination.Or she could be a Wheaten colored bird.
Wheaten hatches out a pale yellow. the BCM parents would explain the dark shanks.
Best,
Karen

In my opiion it is a recessive white bird or sport. She is a white marans. Cross it back to one of the parents to get more whites. The bird could be wheaten. If it develops a black breast- its a male wheaten. If it is a female wheaten it will develop black or dark brown feathers in the tail and wings.

I think it is going to stay pure white. The others hatched at the same time are getting there copper feathers in...I don't know what to think...I guess I will just have to wait a bit long....Thanks so much for the post, it gives me some ideas...:)

it's a spot as mentioned above, it happens in the black copper marans. People are trying to breed just white marans. Which was one of the 2 original colors of the marans.
