My chick crumb delivery was meant to turn up today or tomorrow. But apparently theyre out of stock now which is odd and I cant get to my nearest shop till Friday because I don't drive and have to rely on my dad who is working.

What else can I feed my two 4 week old chicks and 1 8 week old until my delievery gets here or I manage to get to the shop?

I read chicks didnt need grit until they were on growers pellets so I currently dont have any. Im freaking out thinking theyre going to die. I dont have either of those. My chcks have been strictly on crumbs since I got them because I wasn't sure what age to start feeding them other stuff and was waiting until I changed them onto growers.

You can feed them boiled, mashed egg without giving grit. Cornmeal and rolled oats run through the blender will be milled enough that they won't need grit. And they'll survive for a day just fine with that.

FWIW... Do you have any sand around? For young chicks, coarse sand is big enough to serve as grit. I used driveway gravel run through a steel mesh strainer when my chicks needed grit for their first night feeding of insects. I just scooped some where the smaller pieces collect when it rains.

At four weeks you can make a pen for them outside. Don't know how warm its been there, but during the heat of the day it should be warm enough for them to be out for a while in the sun. If you do that they can find some of their own grit. At a week old they can eat just about anything if its chopped fine, and grit is supplied. As they get older the pieces can get larger.

I bought 3 new chickens today, around 6-8 weeks I believe. And I'm spending the night at my boyfriends, so they're spending the night in a box. But they've love the egg you recommended. And I've had birds with mycoplasma walking around my garden so I'm scared about putting the chicks down on soil that might be contaminated. Can mycoplasma spred this way? Is there a way to disinfect the ground?
