Out of shavings, can I use hay in broody nest?

I'm setting up my broody nest.

I'm out of pine shavings and can't make a trip to town today.
I want to use an extra large dog kennel as my broody nest. Instead of covering the floor of the kennel in pine shavings and using hay for the nest on top of that, can I just cover the floor in hay and then add an extra clump of hay formed into a nest? I have a ton of hay and hay is what my girls are used to in their nest boxes.

Hay is fine!! That's the only thing my grandmother had around the farm to use and is perfectly fine for chickens!!

Yep, thats what my dad and pappaw uses in thier nest boxes. I even use it sometimes too.

Hay is fine. Grass hay is the softest, if you have any.
