My first batch of chicks (5 left out of 8) moved out of the brooder and into the big coop yesterday evening. Here they are checking it out for the first time.

They really liked pecking on the hard floor versus the mesh floor that was in the brooding cage.

As ususal somebody always has to claim the water dish as their perch and then poops on it to prove it. We plan to hang the waterer and feeder soon, just ran out of time last night.

Guess its time to move discussion on this group to the Managing your Flock section, but I'll be getting more babies in about 3 weeks so will continue reading to learn more every day. Thanks for all the help from everyone in getting my first batch to this point!

What I'm supposed to have left (I say supposed to because they were my first chicks and I bought them locally and the guy seemed to be letting his roosters have their pick of the hens), are 4 Barred Rocks and the smaller one ducking out of the first pic is supposed to be a Black Austrolorp. When I posted pics in another forum there was speculation that some of my Barred Rocks might be mixed with Cuckoo Maran's. I would think anything is possible in hindsight.

My 2 Barred Rocks love sitting on the feeder and water. They have a great personality. They all go out to the coop next week. They will be 8 weeks and I will be finished building the coop.
