Out of the brooder and into the coop ?

Mine, 15 hatchery BR's, went in their coop at 3 weeks. They were pretty feathered out and getting big, plus it's July, and I didn't have any heat on them for a while...maybe the first week? They have been there a week and doing fine...put a fan on them in the hot spell we had, but last night got down to 44 degrees here. Just shut up the windows at night. They did fine. Our run isn't finished yet, Lord willing, next week-end it will be. We are building a 10' by 20' run for them!

Our coop is under a bunch of trees, and the run is partially shaded, partial sun, so they will have both to choose from. Last night, the girls slept on their short roost for the first time. Need to put another one up, both are temp, for the ones that are farther down the pecking order, as the higher ups wouldn't let some on their roost...so today they will get another roost, on the other side of their coop for the ones that didn't get to roost last night. They are now 4 weeks!

Once the run is finished, we will put up the shakes on their coop, trim it out and paint it!!! Don't want to pound on their coop while they are in it!!! Then their nesting boxes will be built and attached on outside of coop....we have the hole cut and plywood sheets screwed over it till it's done also! A work in progress

Then on to the next building projects for next years lot....no more chickens before housing is up

The inside of their coop is painted white for easier cleaning, and to brighten it!

I put mine out this evening. They LOVE it! They spread their wings and chased eachother around the run. It was cute. They scared my grandson. He's 20 Mos and going through the "everything freaks me out" phase. lol. My dogs are desperate to get in there and try fresh chicken. I figured out exactly where I needed to reinforce the run. That was done quickly, to my dogs' dismay. rotfl

So, the chicks had issues with tne roosting bar. I set them on it and they just sat tnere trying to figure out what it was. Scrambles was the first to jump down and explore the coop. Omlette and Sunny had to be helped down. I put them back on the roost before I locked tne coop for the night. We'll see how they did in the morning
