I have an 11 yr old son who has Aspergers which is on the Autism spectrum.. He's a pretty "normal" kid except that he still lives in a fantasy world for the most part.. I've tried explaining the birds and the bees with him when our dog was giving birth and he started asking questions.. He even pulled out his "book" that explains everything! Well, I answered a few questions for him and he was content with that and wanted to go outside to play.. (He is also very easily distracted).. I asked him if he had any more questions and his reply was, "Nah, I'll read about it later!" and he walked away.. ROFL!! Well, he's asked questions here and there and I answer all of them honestly.. I've even explained to him that the roosters jump on the girls backs because he wants chicks.. But, i guess it didn't sink in although I've told him everytime he's seen it happen.. So today he goes outside and I had just gotten done putting the two extra roos in their new runs... He comes in the house and says, "Mommy, I thknk you are going to need to teach Clucky again!"... I asked him why.. He says, "because he just went after one of the girls with his spurs!"... So, i thought for a second.. I asked him if Clucky had jumped on her back and he said yes.. I tried to tell him, "That's what roosters do".. He couldn't understand why and proceeded to tell me that he also grabbed onto the back of her neck.. UGH!!! Again, I said "That's what they do.. don't worry about it!"... I figured as many times as he's been told *WHY* Clucky does this, he would understand... Guess not! LOL

I have been having the same chat with my son as to why we cant/dont have a rooster since he could walk LOL. He is all like but mummy I want babies haha. He is now 3.5 and he has desided he is our rooster so runs around the yard "roo roo roo" haha I should tape it and send it to funniest home vides.

I keep my 2yo grandson for his parents to work. He LOVES the chickens, helps me gather eggs, feed, wash out the waterers, rake the runs. Last week, I was cleaning the poop board when I heard " don't you never, ever do that, don't do that again, I serr-o-us, don't never ever do that again!" I looked out to see our roo 'doin' his business with a hen! Grandson was so mad cause "Roo was 'wraslin' w/ the hens"! I tried to explain it to him.... but he said "he was pullin' her hair, Gran"!!! lol

My son learned the birds and the bees by asking, "How does the man's DNA get into the baby?" No side stepping that one.

My oldest has some traits of Aspergers.. we went to one doc he said yes... we went to another "specialist" he said no... so we went back and forth for many years... DS is now 18

When he was about 4 my mom bought him a book "the crazy book of what if" It talks about "what if" the world did not have gravity? What if humand didnt poop.. and so forth.. well one was "what if" humans did not have sex?... well he was horrified... he comes running downstairs flipping out "you and daddy had SEX?" ewww thats just gross...

the book also covered "what if" humans did not have DNA?.... well once he got to that chapter you could not flush the toilet because he wanted to see what would happen if he peed on your pee and the DNA mixed

I've just been cracking up with all the replies.. Their innocence is so amusing at times..

Dar, I feel for you.. My son was diagnosed with severe ADHD and OCD when he was very young.. it wasn't until he was 8 that he was diagnosed with Aspergers.. He showed some signs of Autism when he was only a few days old but luckily he ended up on the opposite end of the spectrum.. It's difficult for a parent to heave a child with a disorder like Autism or Aspergers but I find it much harder on the child him/her self.. Especially with Aspergers because a lot of people don't know about it nor do they understand it.. I watch my son struggle everyday with teachers that don't care and bullies both in school and at home.. My heart sinks for my son everyday..

I feel for you... my oldest was diagnosed at about 4 with ADD, then some yahoo said it was ADHD.. then the next school year came along and then the ODD was the hip thing and they discounted the ADD/ADHD diagnosis.. then halfway the school year they came up with PDD (Pervasive developmental disorder) with OCD... then in grade 8 that came up with the Aspergers, because it is a part of PDD so we were sent to another doctor and I was kinda mad at this point and on a white piece of paper i wrote the word "CHILD" and used a safety pin to attach it to his shirt.. we walked into this specialists office and he kinda looked at me funny and asked what the sign was about and I told him "everyone seems to forget we are talking about a child so I thought I would put my own label on him just so you dont forget" and I walked out the door and did my own thing from that point on and used what strategy worked best for him. Which was a little bit of this and a little bit of that... no real treatment outline. He has had his bumps in the road but he also has some reasons too, not excuses but reasons.. and today he is a successful and independent young man
