How do you care for your flock when you have a vacation planed?

You find a chicken sitter who can take care of your chickens while your gone. It could be a family member, a friend, or a person who you find can do it.

My neighbor took care of our chickens while we were away. I showed her what to do for morning open and evening lockup. I wrote down (very detailed) directions that she could refer to, and of course told her to call with any questions.

I told her to take all the eggs while we were gone.

We rarely travel, but we have family members who can handle feed and water for a few days.

We put out enough food and water for the week. We have auto doors on the coop and run. The dog sitter only had to collect the eggs and throw out some scratch. Done and done.

I've had a retired neighbor come over and let them out in mornings/lock up at night, toss out some extra food in the morning, and pick up eggs.

She's since moved away, and AI is a concern (so we don't want anyone else in the set up), so on our last vacation we just relied on the auto door to let the chickens in and out, put out extra feed and water, and picked up the eggs once we got back.

We just let the poop pile up while we're gone. Not really a big deal, just means a lot more scooping than usual when we get back.
