They will fly up to the lamp quite soon, so you want to make sure you have fencing over the whole top, even under the light.I have an old upright freezer that doesn't work anymore. I am thinking of cutting the top out of it, laying it on it's back. Then putting hardware cloth on the inside and outside of the cutout. I'll use a ceramic heating bulb attached to a digital thermostat to keep them warm. If the get too hot they can just move to the end with the hardware cloth. Does this seem like a viable repurposeing solution?
Also, even spatters of rain would be harmful to them. It needs to be out of the weather and tough enough to withstand a raccoon attack.
