Hello all! I have a small farm with a lot of rescues on it! From cats to goats to lovebirds and even 1 little, adorable, hognose snake!
I finally finished building the Peacock Palace, next project is Ducks Digs which will be beside our little pond! In the meantime, I have been talking to my family and we are thinking about getting a couple of those metal gazebos and enclosing them to make separate, outdoor cages for the budgies and lovebirds and doves. Thoughts? I'm planning to make an attached double door for an air gap so we don't have to worry about them flying out. This would of course only be used when the weather is appropriate and when they would be monitored. We don't get too cold here, just lots of rain. In the summer it can get really hot though (over 100° today).
If I put them on a cement pad there is no worry about anything digging into their space. I can use the 1/2" square hardware cloth in 14 gauge so it will also prevent any wild birds or rodents or other predators from trying to get them. I thought I could include a mister around the ceiling on one side with a timer so they can have little "showers" periodically. Also there are little ceramic or stainless steel pet water fountains that I thought would be really nice to incorporate. Add a bunch of completely non-toxic plants and maybe even put some small square pieces of sod in a tray for them to play in and nibble on. Lots of perches and toys too of course! 🙂

Anyone have any thoughts on this idea?

Here are a couple of the palace. The structure is an RV carport. We had half divided into 2 indoor areas and 2 outdoor runs. Inside is 10 x 10 with the ceiling at about 12 feet tall. They have an exterior 10 x 45 run with the top netted and up to 16 feet tall attached so they can go in and out whenever they want. The lower 2 1/2 feet is metal panels with 6 inches below ground to prevent digging by predators. The side walls are 14 gauge hardware cloth 8 feet high and then the netting starts. It is suspended over greenhouse hoops which keeps it from sagging. The highest point is 16 feet tall. There is 1 hen and 1 cock on each side. We plan to make it more fabulous though! High outdoor perches, Some fun enrichment toys. Also using the auto waters made for dogs for their water. Construction sand on the inner floor to help it to stay cool and make it easier to clean.

*They will not be bred as we believe that there is a serious problem of balance in most parts of the world.
🙂👍🦚

I like your attitude. :old :hugs
about the rescue.
Yes there is way too many animals brought into this world for profit. Then the fun wears out,,, and they are abandoned.
In our family,,, RESCUE,,, is also a priority.
All those cats in my Avatar, are feral rescue.
My DD# 2 just got a rescue dog in February. The rescue organization got her from your State coincidently. She had 20 minutes left,:hit, and the rescue organization took all 6 dogs, there. I know that the Dog pounds are overcrowded in many areas.
This is a picture of her first day at DD's home.

And the latest rescue is this budgie. DW and a friend caught flying around outside. Birdie was hungry, and weak. Easy enough to catch. When birdie got home,,, just could not stop eating. Now one month later,, eats casually as a normal budgie does:frow
