outside nesting boxes -door location?

For those of you that have nesting boxes attached to the outside of your coop, not inside. where is the door opening? Do you open the top of the nest boxes - what is essentially the roof? Or is the roof fixed and you access the boxes from the side, like a door opening?

I had top-opening nests on my Little Monitor Coop but changed to front-opening because it's hard to keep top-opening nests from leaking along the hinge.

This is my nesting box. It opens at the top where the white plastic is

A super deep eve can also help with hinge leaking.
