Chicks are 4 weeks.. but it's 100 degrees... too early to put them in the torturous heat..?? Should I wait another month....? Thanks

picture bout week old... they bigger...

It's been in the high 90s here, I have had my 2 week chicks out all day for a week, I put them in an unheated box at night in the house, and put them back out with shade, food and water in the mornings. They have really done well. They look better then the ones in the brooder, eating nothing but starter feed.

They can go outside and probably spend the nights outside by now as well. Make sure you provide a shady spot for them to hang out in and lots and lots of fresh water to drink. If they show signs of being too hot place a shallow pan of water in the run that they can stand in to cool their feet.

Welcome to BYC! This is the place to be if you have chickens. KendyF and sumi have given you some good advice. Good luck with your flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

That is a bit hot for 4 week old chicks. But if you can keep them cool, they might do ok. Keep a fan blowing on them. Use pans of cold water to step in, use ice packs or frozen water jugs, etc....Just watch them carefully. Young chicks have not yet developed their internal heating and cooling systems well yet and are very vulnerable to dying in very hot or cold temps just yet.

Good luck and welcome to our flock!

90's will feel like an oven to them. I would wait till you have some break in the weather, so they can work themselves up to those temps more gradually. Even adult birds can drop dead In heat like that - I'd be very careful with youngsters.

I built a bigger brooder / future house.. so they will be good for a while thanks
