Outsmarting a goat! I need help!

Before you decide on getting a buck, I want to tell you about a site I visit often. fiascofarms.com This is a great site with lots of information, especially about owning a buck. Hope this helps and good luck with Miss Lily.

goats are herd animals. She has to have a buddy. It doesn't have to be a goat. Just someone she is with: dog, horse, etc. Even then they sometimes get curious-very smart animals!

Well I had mentioned in other posts that she stays with her "herd" of chickens but I've just recently been confining her in the barnyard. I want to let her out and remain free to stay with them all day but she likes to get into mischief and chew up things all around our house and yard! When she's with the chickens, she is fine but she isn't confined either. She doesn't wander from our yard or property and stays all day/night long. I even think to an extent she protects the chickens from the hawks that are at my house ALL the time! Maybe I should just let her out and be done with it! Oh the dilemna!

They were giving away pygmy goats there for awhile because the goats were so much trouble. Now times are so tough that people try to sell them.

I hope you find a way to keep your goat in her pen.

Please consider all the potential delivery problems that pygmies are notorious for. I would not recommend breeding her unless you have experience with assisting goat births. Pygmies and nigerians have problems more often than standard breeds.
I would again recommend finding a wether to keep her company. They will get along in no time. There are so many dairy goat people out there that would love to find their boys a nice home.
