OVA-Easy Cabinet Vs. GQF Sportsman

okay we got our new sportsman 1502 today we just now had time to hook everything up are they suppose to be noisy? this thing is noisy

do you have it on a level surface and not on a cabinet you might be getting a vibration that make it louder becouse of the hollow space. Mines not noisey at all its in the living room on a table.

The sprotsman they are great. Simple to use. keep a check on your water of corse this is the main thing. mine came with everything needed to hach if you really want to hatch a lot i do recomend the plastic egg trays and get some small (rat) wire and put on the bottem of the haching tray i found this help the chick get up and moveing (after a few hatches i had some cripled chicks the tray became slick the wire fixed this) I set tray 1 with 60 chicks one week later tray 2 and then tray 3 move tray one to hatch on day 18 on day day 23 i end the hatch becarefull on timeing of setting the trays back plan ahead so you dont have over lap for the hatching tray.

Just so you know.

The auto-humidity on the Brinsea is a fully automatic auto-humidity manager, and not a bucket

The Sportsman is an excellent incubator, but does NOT have auto-humidity control .... it's very poorly named.

For Value and a Quality built incubator, I would buy a DICKEY... they are crafted by hand, one at a time and the cost makes it a better value.....$540.00 vs $670 or higher......
A Dickey Incubator is what I'm saving for....

Dickey and Sportsman are functionally identical. Some prefer one over the other. I like supporting the little guy, and would go for the Dickey, but I would be accepting that solid wood is not the best material to make an incubator from, and is no indication of quality or potential results.

The Ova is a different beast entirely, and is superior to both of the above, but it isn't cheap.

You would probably be very happy with any of the above.

Twigg, I couldn't have said it better......however as I stated they are different.....Dickey's cabinet is not made out of particle board and cost less!!!!!!! Somewhere money does entire into the decision on what product to buy. It is very hard to repair particle board...IMO you are wrong....solid wood is better. The Cadillac of incubators in the 60'-'70's was made by the Leahy Bros. and theirs was made from solid Redwood 1 3/4" thick, Check out Legg Peacock Ranch in Missouri, he sold all his Sportsmans and replaced them with antique Leahys because he had a higher hatch rate....their product held the humidity and temp better. Someone please lend me some money so I can get a Dickey...I already own a Leahy Model 1200.

Actually, particle board is technically better than solid wood

Yeah, I know ... it's also cheaper and Sportsman Incubators cost more.

Best is one of two approaches .... high quality injection mouldings, as used by Brinsea but not possible on a small scale, or a laminate.

My choice would be 1/8th Oak ply, for appearance, boded to 1" styrofoam sheet and lined with Formica. Trim that lot with oak edging and kiss yer Dickey goodbye
