oval eggs are from what type of chickens?

I got this egg, and I'm thinking it is from one of my newest five hens, but I'm not for sure. If you saw it out of the picture it would be more oval than it probably looks in the picture…...

Can you post another picture it looks normal. Do both ends have the rounded point? Is that what is different?

Yes, at the end of both it has a point. Where my others eggs are just round…….

Don't stress on it, a given chicken will lay eggs of slightly different shapes. I have no idea why.

All of my girls normally lay eggs that are bigger on one end than the other but last week one of the Australorps laid a gigantic egg that was equally tapered on both ends. Double yolk. I hard boiled it just to see what it would look like. The yolks were joined by about 1/4" of surface area and there was ZERO air space in the shell.

I can tell the Ancona eggs apart because the eggs from one are a bit pointer on the small end than the other. But NOT ALWAYS. Some days I think the "rounder" one laid, then I ended up with 2 white eggs (the max I can get

) and the second was a little rounder on the small end.

Also, the weight of eggs from a given chicken will vary day to day. The Ancona that lays the more rounded small end popped out a 84 gram egg (almost 2 sizes larger than USDA Jumbo, if there were such a thing) on the 8th and a 48 gram (small) egg yesterday. The average of the 44 eggs she has laid since I got the scale on 1/12 is 55.47 grams. Her smallest is 44 grams (BARELY USDA small) and that was on the 3rd. She has been laying since November 22nd so that 44 gram egg isn't a "first egg". Plus, the largest egg my blue egg EE laid was her first, no "pullet" eggs for her, she has been solidly Medium since.

And, just to make your life easier

, they aren't always the same shade. They won't be a different color (though sometimes the egg from the Easter Egger that lays blue has enough green in it to be confused with the green egg from the other EE when she is in her "light phase". Her darker green "phase" eggs are almost olive. I don't know why this happens either

AND

the eggs from a given breed are not always the same color. My bigger Australorp lays a matte medium brown egg, NEVER less than USDA large. The smaller lays a darker egg, sometimes with a few small light spots and a bit shiny, which are midrange Medium size. One of the Partridge Chanteclers lays an egg the same color as the larger Australorp but the largest she has EVER laid is 52 grams, a full size smaller than the Australorps SMALLEST egg. So I can tell them apart

. The other PC lays a shiny tan egg in the same size range as the first.

The only way you will know which bird lays which egg is to be there when it happens!

One of my girls will at times lay an egg that seems to have bands around the shell as if she had squeezed in some spots and I have had eggs that were completely round with absolutely no tapered end. God only knows what goes on in their before we get the egg. I would not be concerned as long as the shell is nice and hard. The pics of the eggs the large egg has the ridges they do not show in this picture but it does look a little misshaped.

I'm just happy I get eggs! But I didn't know if the oval eggs were from my newest chickens or what. Half of my eggs are just round and vary from a light brown or to that medium brown. I can get two white eggs here and there, but not every bunch I know does NOT get white eggs, so I kind of treasure those white eggs, cause their the odd ones out of the bunch.
