Great minds?Edit: Tandem post with sourland. Let's go.![]()
of That flock of 5 I would list Coppertop as my most consistent, healthy hen. She has been most consistent with laying as well as never having medical intervention in her life. She is not top hen...more like 4th. No one bothers her and she's good with everyone too. Shes currently molting (taking forever zone 6a). None of these 5 are laying atm and shes last to molt. Seems the growth started in the season I introduced (tried) a 9week old boy to the flock. I rehomed him at 15 weeks and wonder if there is a correlation. (First boy they ever met at 4 yrs old, lol). Anyway, just curious if it was uncommon. Here she is in the fall season unimpressed with the molt.As far as I know, that's just a thing that can happen. Miss Coppertop is in her spur era, and she's looking fierce!
I do wonder if it's due to her age and hormonal fluctuations. Does she still lay? Does she show any other male characteristics, like aggression?

Thanks SourlandSometimes it happens - can be hormonal changes or just normal part of the aging process.
