Good news to anyone who cares... September 25th we got our boy duke (buff brahma) and 2 barred rocks... Now 4 and a half months later duke is already crowing and trying to mount his women... And one of the barred rocks are already laying!! As a general rule we assume about 5 and a half months before they lay, apparently we got some over achievers
 
24 Weeks is just the average. Some pullets start earlier and some later. Congrats on your eggs! As for the roo's behaviour... I've had 8-week-old roosters trying their luck with the hens! And I've heard of roosters crowing very early, if you can call it crowing...
