Over feeding?

I have a one gallon feeder and a three gallon water dish. With my flock of seven I usually have to fill up the feeder once every two or three days. Am I over feeding them? I always have food available to them. They also free range in the yard for part of the day. Thank you.

Chickens don't overeat chicken feed. When their crop is empty, they feel hungry. Things that aren't especially good for them like scratch and bread, they might overeat. Just like a kid with candy.
