Over mating issues?

Hi, I just joined and am a first time chicken owner, we got our 3 chooks about 4 months ago, and got a Black Australorp, a Buff Orpington, and an Easter Egger. I ordered 3 hens online, but found out a little while ago the Australorp is a rooster! We will see how it goes, but I am a little worried about over mating. Any tips or insight about this situation? The Australorp's name is Ash, the Egger is Belle, and the Orpington's name is Opal.

I would just monitor them. Try not to stress or worry too much. I have often had just pairs of birds together and not had an issue with over-mating. They tend to police themselves ok.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens this is great place to explore..
If you look in forums there are several threads about overmating .
Best case is to seperate the homonal cockerel until he calms a bit

Time will tell the tale. Australorps are good sized roosters, and mating damage is a possibility. Have a 'Plan B' in mind.

He may be just fine with no others to compete with. If it becomes a problem do like everyone else does...... get more hens. Lol

You could make a bachelor pen. Like a breeding pen.

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
I wouldn't get more hens until you get a bigger coop. The one that they're sitting on won't fit the three you have.
