Overagressive mating rooster, where do you draw that line?

ha ha, rationalize to my SON not the rooster. :) The rooster is getting butchered tomorrow along with his 16 week old sons and theyre going into my freezer. The boys have had an opportunity to let this sink in and have realized how mean he is and how much they love being around the hens when he's not there. Nobody's gonna miss him here!
LOL@ the rooster kicking his own butt!!

I have a roo that's really hard on one of my red sex links hens. She is now missing feathers on her back. He's a good protector. He hates my husband and my one daughter. I'll give him away before I cull him. So will the feathers grow back? Are roos hard on the hens at certain times of the year?

I do not get along with aggressive roosters. One attack and I'm done. You're outta here! Also, I have had a rooster that enjoyed my poor hens alittle too much. I decided that since I don't plan on hatching any of my eggs, I don't need a rooster. I enjoyed having him around for just the all around farm experience and enjoyed him crowing, But I decided it wasn't worth my poor hens having bare backs. So currently I have 40 happy hens and no rooster.

In my experience, they won't grow back as long as you have the roo. I would get a hen saddle on her ASAP to prevent him from giving her spur wounds.

They are most aggressive in the springtime but if your roo is attacking your family I would get rid of him. The problem is most people don't want a human aggressive rooster (to keep, anyway) and you'd be putting them in harm's way not to disclose that.

My mean old roo is now resting in a ice bath with his 16 week old sons. He'll be dinner tomorrow. ;) It's amazing how my girls have relaxed. In just 24 hours, they've started coming up to us again and they are happily sunning themselves as I type. He just would not leave them in peace. After having his spurs cut me up while I plucked him yesterday, I feel horrible that I didn't do this for them sooner. It must have been miserable feeling those tear at their tender backs multiple times a day. I will never keep a rooster with the flock again, I don't care how tame or nice he is. Dh and I are going to build a separate rooster-house and they will only be out with the girls when they forage.

Same here. I never wanted a rooster to begin with., but they came with the chicks I got. Memories of collecting eggs many years ago with an agressive rooster to deal with was not pleasant.
