Overbreeding...

My wife keeps telling me I should sell some male pet ducks because the females are getting raggedy from overbreeding. (Flock of 40.) I keep hesitating, because these are almost like family, they have names, they trust me, etc. Whichever boys I'd sell will miss their friends. Is there any alternative?

You can have a bachelor pad..people do it with roos..I dont do duckies though..

Many on here have drakes separated from their females. They can really tear up your females even drown females if there are many drakes going after one. Which happens a lot

Roughly 1.25 females per male
Used to be far worse, like 1.5 males per female for years, yet the girls didn't look this overbred.

Depending on n the breed, I though you would want more like 1:3 minimum, up to even 1:8.

The best ratio and yes depending on the breed but at least 4 females per drake and even better if you can have more.
