Overdose with antibiotics

What was the temperature inside the coop? Could overheating be an issue? What were the symptoms of the respiratory problem you were treating?

Are those broilers or meat birds that you are raising, or are they egg layers? They do appear very crowded, and there looks to be little ventilation. Good air ventilation over head and preventing ammonia odor from poop helps to reduce tthe incidence of respiratory problems. Coccidiosis can be a problem when there are multiple ages and that can be treated with amprollium, toltrazuril, or sulfa antibiotic. What type of heat do you have in there to heat the coop in your winter weather? The temperature for young chicks would need to be warmer than for the older ones, which would be overheated in the same temperature.

They are broilers
There are 8 extractor fans in the barn
We use a combination of gas heaters and there is a fire place in the corner

That temp would equal 80 degrees F in daytime and 60 F at night. That is too cold for the younger chicks. Are you losing the young chicks mostly or the older ones? Can the chicks who are gasping stand or are they too weak to walk? I think that I would treat for coccidiosis in case you haven’t already.

The older ones, they are 28 day old
The gasping ones can stand and move.

I also have some chickens who start to limp, and loose movement in the one leg
