Hi guys! This is kind of emergent for me but I recently got 4 Production Blue chicks. I’ve been feeding them the non medicated dumor chick starter. I’ve provided water(of course) but the chicks seem to be eating nonstop. After they finished the food left in the feeder, they’re pooping often and the poop seems a bit runny. I took out the feeder and now they’re crying nonstop. Please advise me on this.

Feed your babies, they eat, poop, sleep and drink ALOT.
They don't and won't over eat.:)
Depending on how long you've had them their systems may be getting accustomed to constant food and water.
At TSC the chicks often go hungry and thirsty and even home hatched chicks that don't ever have empty feeders eat a TON!
They're fast growing and that takes food.

Spend lots of time with them. Treat them as little parrots; the babies need lots of care and attention, and they will cry until they get it. Also, you should feed medicated chick feed to prevent certain diseases.

I never do, medicated feed is formulated for chicks to help them combat coccidiosis, a disease that is found just about everywhere in the environment. Most medicated starter feeds contain the medication amprollium. Amprollium does not treat coccidiosis, but it helps the babies fight off cocci oocysts while they develop their own immunity. If your birds have been vaccinated against coccidiosis, feeding them medicated feed will nullify the coccidiosis vaccination, but it will not hurt them.
I offer soil and grass clumps from outside to stimulate, offer grit, and help the chicks develop immunities on their own.
Knock on wood, never had any coccidiosis ever.:jumpy
Totally on spot about the spending time with them! :)

Thank you! If there’s no need for medicated feed I won’t give it to them, I’ve decided to offer grit once their about two weeks old since my local tractor supply sold out of chick grit and it’s pretty far from my house.

Also, could I make chick grit from eggshells? I’ve seen this somewhere but people bake eggshells and process it finely, and then they sift it and give it to the chicks. Could I actually do this?

No. Grit is not eggshells and grit is not calcium. Grit is sharp edged hard/dense rocks. Usually ground up granite.
