Hi,

I'm Diane, and after a year of reading on this board, I now have six Buckeye pullets. The girls are now two weeks old and a lot of fun. I went to the feed store this week to buy feed, and the guy behind the counter said, "Don't feed them too much." ??? The birds seem to eat when they are hungry only, and they are not fat, so is it possible to overfeed them?

Thanks.

Nope. They eat when they're hungry and they eat as much as they need. Don't limit their feed.

Good luck with them!

I've never heard of overfeeding a chick. I've heard of giving chicks too many treats, though. Don't worry about giving the chicks too much feed. They need it and they will eat a lot of it! Just don't give them extra treats that fill them up and take the place of the feed that they need for proper nutrition.

What they are probably talking about is the meaties, not the Buckeyes. For the meaties if you don't limit their food a bit they can eat so much they can eat themselves to death. But for Buckeyes, do not worry about it. Keep feed available to them all the time. They will not overeat, but Clarabean is right. Do not give them a lot of stuff other than the regular chick feed.

It is a good idea to post questions on this forum on anything you don't quite fully understand that you get from someone at a feed store or anywhere else, especially if it does not sound right. Some feed store employees are pretty good but some don't really understand everything they are talking about. Thye are people, just like everywhere else.

And don't necessarily believe everything you read on this forum either. Try to get a few different opinions. I've seen some responces on here that are just plain wrong. It's not that they are being evil and deliberately passing out bad information. I've made mistakes on this forum before and luckily people have been able to correct me.

My chicks are eating very often they have what seems to be a lump of food a little bit under there neck / around there belly if you gently push you can feel what seems to be the chick starter HELP
