Overheated chicks

It sounds like your heat may be too close or on too high. Post some pics of the set up, or give a description of what you have and I'm sure some of our more knowledgeable members will be happy to help. Make sure they have plenty of water also.
 
Remember that when chicks are raised by mum, they don't spend all their time underneath her; they need areas of cool and warm, never hot. If you're using a heat lamp, it should be in a large enough space that say, one half of the brooder is heated by the lamp, and the other is closer to ambient temperatures.

Depending on your ambient temperature, you may not even need to provide heat during the day.

I use electric brooder plates rather than heat lamps now, and will always endorse them; chicks can choose if they're cold and go underneath, or just hang around the edge or on top, and feed and water can be kept cool to avoid any nasties growing.
