Overheated chicks?

I've 40 2wk old chicks in cages in the garage. 50% Jumbo & 50% Celadon.
It's HOT here, garage temperature is 82F and humidity is 35%
I have lamps and have been maintaining 85F now, and there is space for them to move away.
**BUT, Some of my chicks appear to be overheating, drinking a ton/lethargic while standing/etc (Jumbos seem fine)
Today I turned the lamps off, there was no huddling AT ALL but as the temp dropped to 80F I put the lamps back on. And they did all move to huddle under the lamp.
Unsure of what to do, gut says go by the book and reduce 5 degrees every week. But I tell you it's hot, I break into sweats just monitoring/tending to them in there.
Advice?

Let the chicks tell you if they're comfortable or not. They'll huddle together if they're cold and they'll spread out and lay flat if they're hot. It sounds like they may only need heat at night if it's that warm in the garage and they're not showing signs of needing the heat during the day.

I put my 2 week old chicks in the garage with no heat lamp and they seem to be doing fine. It is 90s daytime and upper 60s overnight (but it takes a bit for the garage to cool off). I wouldn’t want to add a heat lamp, even if they have ‘room to move away’ it still produces peripheral heat and it can get toasty fast! They should be decently feathered at this point and can huddle with that many if need be.

DONT go "by the book," or the internet or use anything other than their behavior as your guide. You're already following your common sense when you see you huddling and when you see lethargy. In the dead middle of winter I've had 2 week old chicks in max temp of *70, based on thier behavior. It's always a little different but you don't want to wait until they pancake to find out you should have kept the lamps off. It's more like 2 days where they need high temps, not so much at 2 weeks even though they're not fully feathered.
