Overrrun with chicks!! How many of you have bought too many chicks!!??

Last spring I got 8 chicks, bought 2 banty pullets later in the year. This spring I ordered 28 chicks, got 30, sold my EE roo, lost two chicks out of the 30, bought two more, bought a new SLW roo, sold 2 chicks, a friend hatched me two, sold 13 chicks, then bought 6 because it looked like one of the hatched two wasn't going to make it. Now I'm praying for the 17 eggs I have set in the bator to make it after a terrible humidity spike.

So current chicken totals:
2 Barred Rock hens
2 Golden Comet hens
2 black Sex-Link hens
1 EE hen
1 Mille Fleur D'Uccle hen
1 Light Brahma/Cochin cross bantam hen
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte roo
3 Columbian Wyandotte pullets
2 Gold Laced Wyandotte pullets
4 Silver Penciled Wyandottes (was supposed to be pullets, now I'm thinking 2 and 2)
3 Silver Laced Wyandotte pullets
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte pullet
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte cockerel
1 Silver Spangled Hamburg cockerel
2 Silver Laced Wyandotte 3-week-olds
6 Speckled Sussex 2-week-old pullets

So... 33 chickens with 17 eggs with a hopefully imminent hatch (If I didn't kill them)

As much as I think I could never have too many chickens in my heart, I know in my head that I have way too many for my facilities right now. 24 is my coop limit and it's full up right now. The SSH and 5 of the SS are bound for sale soon.

On the fence about which SLWs to keep out of the 3 11-week-old pullets and 2 3-week-olds. Will be much simpler if the 3-week-olds turn out to be cockerels since I will just sell them then.

Definitely a bit overrun and still want more. Totally and completely addicted!

I adopted a hen and a rooster from animal rescue a month or two ago.
That led to this forum.

Then I bought 4 young Muscovy ducks.
Then I ordered 4 sebrights from MyPetChicken.
Then I bought 4 sexlink and 4 bantams at TSC
Then I bought 3 sexlink and 3 bantams at TSC
Then I ordered 4 ducklings and 5 Easter Eggers from Ideal Poultry
Then I bought 6 ducklings at TSC
Then I ordered 15 guinea hens from Cackle Hatchery
Then I ordered 2 white faced spanish bantams and 2 mille fleurs bantams and 4 buff orpingtons from Ideal Poultry
Then I ordered 10 cuckoo marans and 5 welsummers from Cackle Hatchery.

Do I have a problem?

What am I going to do with all of these eggs?

No of course not,
Just because I sneak and order more eggs, or take a detour to the feed store when nobody is with me and sneak an occasional baby or two in with the babies already at home does not by any means mean that I have a problem!

LOL! I started my little flock in febuary of this year with 15 chicks from Ideal today I got alot more.
Lets see now,
I have 6 light brahma, 2 golden sexlinks, 2 black Aust.,2 BOs, 2 Cal. leghorns, 5 EEs, that was the first batch.
Second batch is 2 black sexlinks, 2 Del., 2 barred cochin, 1 red cochin,1 blk cochin, 1 partridge cochin,1 barred Rock, then I hatched out 2 speckled sussex, than I went to rural king and picked up 7 more EEs, Than I hatched out 12 BBS Orpintons . the last order from Ideal consisted of 5 Blue cochins, 5 barnvelders, 5 Salmon Fav. I lost all but one of them, and 5 barred rock packing peanuts. Oh yeah I also have 1 silver laced wyandotte, and have just ordered 6 salmon Fav. eggs for the bator, "OH MY GOSH, MAYBE I DO HAVE TOO MANY!" just joking of course there is no such thing as too many!

But if I do ever figure out that there is a number of too many chickens I will let you know! ;)Sandy

Too many!?! Never! We just got our 100 roos (mixed brown egg layer breeds) yesterday morning, with 3 free ducklings for good measure (I think they are all rouens cause the stripes under their eyes are pretty much solid)
2 golden seabrights
2 cochin bantams
2 mystery bantams

in June I will have 25-30 more coming as that is when my dark egg pullets ship.

My kids think we already have too many. My husband is slowly getting on board. I just want my coops to get built.

5 Ameraucana chicks from Ideal
4 Dominique chicks from Ideal
8 Quail chicks from a local breeder
3 Araucana (1 roo, 2 hens)

Coming from Cackle:

May 11th
5 White Silkes (st run)

Sometime this summer:

5 blue Silkies (st run)
5 Cherry Eggers (pullets)
5 Cuckoo Marans (st run)
5 Salmon Faverolle (st run)
5 Salmon Faverolle (pullets)
5 Easter Eggers (pullets)
5 Ameraucans (pullets)
5 Buff Orpingtons (pullets)

EGGS:

I have one full incubator and 1 incubator about to be full! They are full of:

Araucanas
Ameraucanas
Easter Eggers
Cuckoo Marins
Assorted other chicken eggs

I am going to share my chicks with my neighbors and other friends who want to get into chickens.

I too was told that most would die. So far, none have. Well, one quail did.

Such a newb question!

There is no such thing as too many chicks, because according to "The Chicken Math," chicks only count as a percentage of one chicken.

Now, this percentage varies based on the following:
*the age of the chick
*whether the chick is a standard or a banty
(finally)
* Whether you are discussing chicks on BYC or with a disgruntled spouse.
